Common taxes and fees on your bill

Billing Fee
Customers who choose to receive a paper invoice via mail will incur a $4.95 per month charge. You may sign up for paperless billing and save $2.25 per month. Simply login to your Metronet customer portal at portal.Metronetinc.com and click on Manage Paperless Billing under the Bill Pay drop down menu.

Taxes & Fees
Federal excise tax
This 3 percent tax applies only to local service billed separately from long distance service.

IN State Taxes
Taxes imposed by state, local, and municipal governments.

Franchise Fee
Fees imposed by a local government for using public property as right-of way for the deployment of fiber or other transmission infrastructure.

FCC regulatory Fee
Annual regulatory fees are mandated by Congress, pursuant to Section 9 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended. Section 9 requires the Commission to collect regulatory fees to recover the regulatory costs associated with its enforcement, policy and rulemaking, user information, and international activities.

E911
Enhanced 911 service enables wireless telephones used to dial 911 to automatically transmit the caller's location to emergency responder

IN Telecom Relay Surcharge
Fees help pay for relay services that transmit and translate calls for people with hearing or speech Disabilities.

IN State USF
This fee is assessed against local telephone service and is used by the State of Indiana to promote access to comparable telephone services at comparable prices throughout the state.

Federal USF
This fee is assessed on the interstate and international portions of your communications bill. The fee provides funding to a federally created fund to help ensure telecommunications services are available nationwide to consumers. The fund subsidizes services in rural and other hard-to-access areas, schools, health clinics, and related initiatives.

FCC SLC Basic Line Charge
This fee is assessed against your local service to recover the costs of providing long distance access over local phone lines.

Local Number Portability
This fee is assessed against your local service to help recover costs for service and equipment that allow customers to switch their local service provider while keeping their same telephone number.
