Lifeline is a federal program administered through the United Service Administrative Co. (USAC) that lowers the monthly cost of voice or internet service. Metronet participates in Lifeline in limited areas of Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota only. To find out if Lifeline is available at your specific location, please contact customer service and a Metronet representative will be happy to answer your questions.
If eligible, you may only receive a discount on one service: Voice or Internet. In order to receive the Lifeline discount for voice service, you must subscribe to a flat rate residential local exchange service. In order to receive the Lifeline discount for broadband service, you must subscribe to our Lifeline Internet service. The service must be at your principal place of residence and must be your only Lifeline service. Additionally, you must certify that you are the head of your household and that you are currently receiving assistance from one of the following programs:
You may also qualify if your annual income is at or below 135% of Federal Poverty Guidelines.
You may apply for Lifeline directly through the Lifeline program’s National Verifier online portal (www.checklifeline.org/lifeline) or by mailing a paper application form (available at the National Verifier online portal after entering your state) with your proof of eligibility document(s) to:
Lifeline Support Center
P.O. Box 7081

In addition to Lifeline, the State of Minnesota offers a state telephone assistance discount. TAP provides a monthly discount of $10.00 on landline voice service. If a customer receives Lifeline from a landline phone/internet provider and purchases voice service, the customer will be automatically enrolled in TAP without the need for the customer to complete a separate TAP application. You may apply for TAP separately for your landline voice service if you obtain Lifeline from a wireless provider.
Please visit https://mn.gov/puc/consumers/telephone and download and review the “Telephone Assistance Plan (TAP) Discount Application”. If you meet the eligibility requirements, please complete and mail the form with proof of eligibility to:
